Supply Chain Support

TFT staff work intensively in factories and forests to facilitate the development and provide ongoing monitoring of robust Wood Control Systems (WCS), also known as Chain of Custody (CoC) systems.  A wood control system enables wood products to be traced back to the forest source and provide assurance that other, potentially illegal, wood has been prohibited from entering the supply chain at any point.  TFT's WCS approach involves understanding the current wood control system in each factory, identifying any issues or weaknesses, and then providing recommendations, training and monitoring to implement a robust WCS system.

For TFT Members, TFT's WCS ensures that products carrying TFT Trademarks can be traced all the way back to the forest.  And with TFT staff consistently monitoring the forests and the factories, each WCS system provides real assurance behind every TFT label issued.

For TTAP partners (non TFT members), the advice given from TTAP staff to develop robust Chain of Custody systems supports forests and factories enterprises in their preparation for 3rd party legality audits.

TFT has developed our WCS procedures and monitoring protocols over the last 10 years, while working directly within supply chains across a number of countries.  We've seen firsthand the advantages and pitfalls of various Chain of Custody systems, and have structured our WCS systems to provide robust assurances on the origin of timber products.

Progress Snapshot from Indonesia (October 2009):

The graph below illustrates TFT's WCS program in Indonesia specifically, showing the factory portfolio over the years and their variable states of progress in developing and implementing WCS systems.  As the factories TFT Member source from can change periodically, we are constantly working to develop new systems in factories that were previously lacking (hence new factories with no or developing CoC are always present).
