Sustainable Forestry, Make it happen
TFT's Co-funding programme raises vital funds to support the social and environmental aspects of our projects. An example of this social support includes training and helping indigenous communities to work with forestry enterprises on a fair and equal footing. Our environmental approach to forestry aims to preserve endemic biodiversity and ensure that Tropical Forests remain viable habitats for generations to come. These funds support our projects striving to keep the forests standing, a crucial asset in the fight against climate change.
Importantly, we depend upon this additional funding from trusts, foundations and individual donors to enhance and secure our forest projects; without their help our work would be as threatened as the forests we are trying to protect. The other primary aim of Co-funding is to communicate our work to those outside of the forests and the timber trade and to show the positive impact our work is having.
Project needs vary but below are further examples of work funded so far:
- Establishing habitat corridors
- Supporting schools and health centres
- Employing a social anthropologist to find solutions to problems faced by indigenous peoples
- Delivering training to local farmers on sustainable forest management
- Developing local language radio broadcasts to aid communication between logging companies and local communities
- Developing the technology with partners to produce hand held icon driven GPS units to produce maps of areas of special interest to indigenous communities
Why we need to 'Make It Happen'
Tropical forests are of unique value to mankind. They are critical in our fight against some of the greatest threats this planet and our species ever faced; poverty, biodiversity loss, climate change, HIV/AIDS and cancer.
Tropical forests help reduce the impact of climate change by regulating temperatures and weather patterns; they provide 70% of the plants found to be active against cancer and support the livelihoods of 800 million of the worlds poor for their daily needs. We simply cannot afford to lose them.
We need your help to ensure that Tropical Forests are managed sustainably for future generations. Please make a donation today. For further information on how to support TFT please email j.mudie@tropicalforesttrust.com or call 0041 223679446. Thank you.
